Familieretshuset

We applied for a name for our newborn child on the 3rd of July. Since the name was not in the "approved" name list it needs to be approved by familieretshuset. Note that the name is a used greek name which already exists for two kids living in denmark but born elsewhere as verified by the church. One should think that approving the name would be a simple matter of familieretshuset contacting the embassy and verifying the existence of the name. The customer information representatives I've talked were not really sure how the verification is done. They were certain however that it takes 2-3 months from the time of application. At least that was the information the first 3 times I contacted them within ~ 1 month from the application. The last time I contacted was today (september 8th) more than 2 months from the application where they informed me that it can take up to 4 months.
Needless to say that the name and birth certificate is needed from the greek embassy to start the process of issuing a passport, another time consuming job. Which means that we'll probably not be able to travel during Christmas.
I also have to mention that whenever I'm trying to get a serious explanation on why this process takes so long, the employees get defensive and in some cases ironic.
I have offered to provide an official statement from the embassy my self that proves the existence of the name but the answer I get is that this will not help.

Thanks for all this familiertshuset!!

This is by far THE WORST public office I've dealt with in Denmark or abroad.

Same issue as others. Sent application online and paid, received an email saying a docs was missing so we logged in to the application and added it again. 14 days pass i call the office and was told this document was missing. I got fed up and just hired Marry Abroad Simply to take over. I recommend you use a wedding planner agency like Marry Abroad Simply as they can get your approval in a matter of days.

I have got a lawyer to fight this scam for a wedding agency. Never ever apply here to get married, they will just steal your money. I have been waiting since December 2019 btw.

Let me try and give some perspective – we are a Danish wedding agency, we do business with Famileretshus all the time, and actually after a really bad start last year they now do a reasonable job (at least for us). We get nearly all our couples approved within 5 days now (which was not the case last spring). Otherwise we would not have a business…
Reading the other reviews I am really sorry to hear of the experiences some have had, and the advice given to contact the Ombudsman if you have a bad experience is spot on – do it. But in general Denmark really is still the simplest and quickest place to get married (and romantic, at least on 脝r酶) and unlike some of the other suggested places, a Danish marriage certificate is valid worldwide.
So; yes we recognise the issues people have raised – we had the same problems early last year. But they have improved a lot, at least in our experience. Most importantly, they are conducting a political review of the performance of the Familieretshus right now – so it is a really good time to give your opinions, either here (they will see it) or to the Ombudsman.
Hope that helps.

I submitted an application to marry my girlfriend on the end of September. 5 days later, they requested additional documents proving our relationships (pictures; text messages…) all dated. We are now almost at Christmas and they still have not made a decision. When you call, the nice lady says that she can only see that the case is in process. When you see their website, you can see that they do not guarantee a processing time. Welcome to the world of arbitratry!
Can they explain why they need more than one month to review basic information?

I am so fed up that I am taking action and invite people facing the same issue to take action. After consultation with a Danish lawyer; he informed me about the existence in Denmark of the Ombudsmand. It is a official that can receive complaints from any people in the world against a Danish administration, and against in particular slow processing and absence of answer.

Please write detailed complaints to him with all details and proofs so that he can trigger an investigation on how Familieretshuset is mishandling our wedding application. It is free.
Simply google ombudsmanden denmark and you will find the website that is multilingual. All information about how to submit a complaint is available on the site.

Otherwise, have you wedding in Gibraltar like John Lennon and Yoko Ono, or in Cyprus.

This Organisation Familieretshuset in Denmark does not function at all.
We send an application for marriage permit already in April 2019 and paid the money ( 221 鈧?. Until Today (27.11.2019) we have not got any answer. They dont answer to mails or letters, it is not possible to get any information by telephone…This organisation does not communicate with people, who want to marry in Denmark…and you can not marry without the permit from Familieretshuset. Worst Case!

The worst experience that i've ever come across. I've applied to get married in Denmark to my girlfriend. They have taken 2 months with 0 response after i have emailed them 15 times (myself & my gf) and i've called them 5 times.

All they say is that the case handler is dealing with it and we cant say anything. I wish i never applied to get married in Denmark.

They've taken my money 2 months ago and no response is unacceptable.

Im starting to advise to other that they shouldnt get married in Denmark because of this process. People cant just wait around for an answer especially like a big event like a wedding.

In 2017 I had the misfortune to contact this organisation about awkwardness I was having with my ex-partner about me ever getting to see my 4 children. Biggest mistake of my life.

She has subsequently used them to stop me having involvement in my children's lives while simultaneously using them to try to take more and more money from me way outside what the rules on their own website allow.

It鈥檚 no wonder that in 2019 they changed their name from Statsforvaltning to Familieretshus. A bit of corporate re-branding to try and get rid of all the old negative reviews. However, as someone said somewhere 鈥渟ame old wine in a new bottle鈥? Maybe it sounds better in Danish. This organisation destroys lives.

As an Englishman, I鈥檇 also add By women, for women and By Danes, for Danes. As a man, especially a non-Danish man, you have no chance.

Am documenting all this on familiehus . dk

I'm Danish and want to get married to a Mexican girl in Denmark. And they are just as hopeless, incompetant. My "crime" is that i filled out my part, but wrote my girlfriends phonenumber wrong, so now she cant get the password, to fill out her part of the papers, I called them 3 times in 14 days, and still, they cant correct the phonenumber.

We have had a very negative experience with The Danish agency of Family law. We have applied to get married in Copenhagen R氓dhus.
They have been processing our application for almost 2 months now. They still haven麓t accepted it or given us a date. They haven麓t apologized or tried to explain this lack of service in any way.
They wouldn麓t let us know that something was missing from our application. I have tried calling them several times but they just tell me, "I麓m sorry, I can麓t see what is going on with your application."
Deeply disappointing. Incompetent, unprofessional, unfriendly service.

Is it because we are foreigners that they won麓t look into our case?
