WILL NOT REFUND AFTER CANCELLING

After their dropping Airbnb, they called and asked if I would rent from them at Familyrentalca.com…same house. Believing them, we did and sent them 2 payments = $2900. It was for August 2020. We had to cancel due to Covid end of June.
Their contract said 100% refundable. Once we cancelled they stopped answering emails and texts. Refuse to refund. I found out later from City of Newport Beach. they dont have a permit to rent that house. A scam all along.

Not getting refund after cancellation

I had picked a property via Airbnb for a family reunion.聽聽The property listed as Spanish Style Home- Sunset- Ocean Views seemed quite nice and the rental price was reasonable.聽聽After we had signed up, they took their property off Airbnb and convinced us to rebook at their new website, www.familyrentalca.com.聽聽We had good experience communicating with the owner (supposedly) along with a supposedly 20% discount, we went along and booked the same property at their new website. That unfortunately turned out to be a mistake.

Prior to sending them deposit money in which they insisted on immediately and the remainder in 7d, Donald continued to be reachable and responsive despite the annoyance of him constantly pushed for us to send them the money else the property will go to someone else. Despite several warning signs, including insistence on payment via Zelle instead of credit cards, I went along with the $500 deposit thinking Donald would be trustworthy.

When I had to cancel my reservation due to all this virus issue, I expected a full refund as promised both in the website and via text exchanges.聽聽However, all I got was lots of runaround, feigned ignorance, and refund nowhere to be found.

After many attempts at politely asking for my refund, which I now reside to never seeing it again, I want to pass on my experiences for others to avoid this same trap.

False Promise of Full Refund for Cancellation

Not refunding my money and not respsonding to my reservation

I made a reservation on Airbnb initially with Eric Johnson and later it got cancelled due to Some reason which is unknown to me and he reached out to me by the email address [email聽protected] that he is not registered with Airbnb anymore but he can still continue with my reservation at his private site. I trusted him as I really liked this property and couldn鈥檛 find anything else at my travel dates. He sent me a rental agreement and Sameproperty pictures which he had on Airbnb and asked me to sign the agreement and send it back to him so that he can send a proforma invoice. He wanted the payment to be made via zelle. I made the full payment of $1456 and he sent me the receipt and asked to bring the print out of the receipt on the day of arrival at the property. When I reached the property it was already rented to someone else by SeaBreeze. I tried reaching him but he didn鈥檛 take my phone call or respond to any of my email.
