Firefly

Worst rental experience ever. I have been renting cars across the globe with no issues, but Firefly is one of the reason rental companies get a bad reputation. The lady was extremely rude and declined any polite request. We ended up paying additional 85 EUR on the invoice (total of 190 EUR for insurance) but charged us 340 EUR. I鈥檓 starting a case with my bank now.

Horrendous experience with this company recently at Alicante Airport. Unethical and illegal sales tactics used coupled with aggressive and rude staff. Next to me at the rental desk was an elderly gentleman – he was totally bamboozled and put under a lot of stress by the Firefly agent. Shame on you Firefly/Hertz.
My first and last time time using this company. Please stay clear.

I was charged for the breakdown cover. I refused any extra insurance cover as whilst booking with Holiday Autos – I took the option of buying the insurance with AXA. Also I have full RAC coving including whilst in Europe. Covering me any car I'm in. I categorically did not want this cover. I explained a couple of times I did not want it. Even though I said I didn't want it – it was shown on the invoice after it was printed. Again, I explained I didn't want it. The Firefly representative explained it as 'there's a block on your card' 'if nothing happens you won't be charged'. I understood that as a kind of separate deposit if I needed breakdown assistance. I explained again if it was cover, I didn't want it.
It got to the point where if I didn't sign the invoice I couldn't have the car.

Well nothing did happen. No breakdown assistance was needed.

After returning the vehicle I received the invoice showing it as cover. And my credit car has been charged.

So it was a way of making the company extra money, hitting targets or the desk staff earning commission.

It was added when I said I didn't want it. Then it was wrongfully explained as a kind of deposit. Then I was basically blackmailed at the desk to sign or not have the car.

Do not used this fraudulent company with unscrupulous staff. You have been warned. But probably, like me, you foolishly saw the reviews after using them. But fingers crossed you're reading this before you've booked.

Total ripoff. A voucher with 18eur for 5 days was transformed in 180eur with hidden taxes. Stay away. Never happened nothing like this nowhere

I rented a car via Rentalcars.com to collect from Firefly Murcia airport last August. As with many others here they added an unexpected charge to my credit card, (拢71), for something to do with the windows. I did not request this nor was made aware of it at the time of collection. An untrustworthy company that's likely to add unexpected charges to your credit card. Plenty of other car rental companies out there so avoid Firefly at all costs.

Rented in Alicante in September without problem.

Rented again in Murcia and returned full, no marks, no damage was told all good. A couple of days from our return noticed a charge for 拢91 on my credit card from Firefly. No email or contact from them that there was a charge.

Have tried contacting them by filling in the form on their website and no joy. Going to our credit card company now as they said if no response for 14 days then they will take up on our behalf.

Shame as they are going to lose regular business from us.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Absolute scam from start to finish. Especially don鈥檛 book through Ryan Air 鈥渉ave you booked your car hire鈥?e-mail prompts. They鈥檙e clearly in cahoots with the airlines with regards to insurance for damages. Whatever you do DO NOT book the car hire in one name but ask for another driver to be added as that will cost an additional 鈧?0 for a simple admin task.
To ensure you start your holiday on a high, I advise to book your car directly with a well known firm and pay slightly more.

I would not give this company one star .We hired a car from Faro and we were under the impression we had pre paid an additional driver on the Jet Two booking site however we later found out this was not the case we had only booked an extra driver on the insurance so that was confusing to start off with.We were happy with the car given to us at the airport and the man explained all about the mileage we were allowed to do and all about the petrol returns policy.I signed for the car and filled in two driver forms and never at any point did the man point out that there was a charge for the extra driver and because we thought we had already paid that we didn't question it.I returned to have an extra almost 拢60 charged to my credit card .Jet Two were not interested and said I signed for it so it was up to me to take it up with the rental company.I know I have to pay this because I signed but I had no idea I had and feel I have been conned out of that money .I would never let Jet Two book a car for me again.I would never us Firefly again or Hertz I've had trouble with them before.Do not use this company.

Terrible experience!

I found this company through Rentalcars.com but very much regret not checking on TrustPilot first.

After my rental, they charged me 200EUR in phoney 'damage' and 'fuel' charges. Luckily I had photos and receipts so got the money back eventually, though it took 4 months and letters to the ECRCS and American Express.

Firefly provided no communication whatsoever through this process, no receipt or responses to concerns. absolute zip. They just took the money off my credit card and hoped to get away with it.

Spend a little more on a reputable company and save yourself months of stress!

FIREFLY CAR RENTAL, MALAGA. Welcome to the world of gangster capitalism. One star rating is way too much for this company. CAVEAT EMPTOR鈥UYER BEWARE. Do not use this company 鈥VER鈥f you wish to retain your sanity. I should have heeded warnings in Trustpilot, Reddit, The Guardian etc. etc. which warned me not to use them. PLEASE NOTE ; This company is owned by HERTZ.
My recent experience in Malaga started with car rental search engine RENTALCARS.COM who recommended FIREFLY. Please note.
The FIREFLY service lady at Malaga Airport was rude, aggressive and when I complained of a 鈥楽eniors Charge鈥?( 70 yrs) she said I was foolish to use RENTALCARS.COM who often mis-informed customers. In addition to the prepaid rental charges made to RENTALCARS.COM she proceeded to charge me additional costs as follows : Airport charge 8%, CC Fee 鈧?.30 : Senior Fee 鈧?8.90 :Fuel 鈧?3.00 : Service Charge 鈧?4.60. On top of thIs I was charged 21% VAT, all totalling 鈧?22.00 extra !

I complained that VAT was not applicable on an Airport tax nor on pre-vatted fuel but I was ignored.
In addition I was advised that the fuel policy was FULL to EMPTY ! As we are all aware, it is virtually impossible to do this is and is yet another scam used by FIREFLY.
In conclusion I hold HERTZ, the parent company, and FIREFLY, jointly responsible for the blatant thievery that is common practice at FIREFLY. RENTALCARS.COM are also culpable in recommending them . I will never use these companies again and I would recommend you do likewise.

It is a pity that I did not look at the rating of this company before booking a car. Other customers said: beware of attempts to increase your bill. Unfortunately, it happened to me.
When I came to rent a car the employee of the company very persistently imposed on me insurance from FireFly. I explained to her that I have full insurance from Rentalcars, additional is not necessary. I repeated 3 times. As a result, the employee still included the proposed insurance in the contract, but did not tell me. I was in a hurry, and I didn't look at the contract carefully. Signed, took the car, and on the day of the return of the car my card was charged the amount of FireFly insurance. Such dishonest behavior does not add respect to the company.

I have been a regular user of Firefly(Hertz) in Malaga for the last year and no problems until last week. I always take out the extra insurance when booking with AutoEurope so don't need the local extras. Last week,it was late, there was a big queue and the very friendly service guy said as they had my details on the system he could do the paperwork very quickly. He confirmed there was no excess and got me to sign the normal papers quickly. What I didn't notice was that he'd added ALL the local extras without telling me. My fault for not seeing the CON trick but, as I said, it was late and I was tired. Imagine my shock when I noticed 鈧?48 on my credit card yesterday !! This guy conned me – plain and simple and more fool me for trusting him. Previous Firefly people had been great but this guy was very clever how he did it. Firefly is owned by Hertz so shame on both of them that they allow this to happen. It's theft, plain and simple.

Really a trap. Can I also give 0 stars? We hired a car for few days. when we gave back the car there was a damage which was barely not visible. The front light was 1 cm to the back. We did not see this when we got the car as it is not so visible, but for them reason enough to charged us almost 300 euro to repair it. I am sure they keep this damage as it is, because they can charge every time the same damage to the future users as it is not really visible when you collect the car. Also if you take pictures when you pick up it should not have been visible. really cheaters, I never will hire from Firefly again!!

I wish I has visited this website to check Firefly out before renting a car with them. Similar to other customers on here, I hired a car for a week in Spain and a week after returning home found an additional charge of 拢151. I had prepaid for the car through Rentalcars.com and opted to pay more for the full coverage insurance. I have since contacted Rentalcars who have informed me that the additional charge from Firefly was for their insurance which was never even mentioned at the desk, and it was even discussed with the desk agent that I had insurance and that no additional cost would be necessary. Rentalcars have assured me Firefly would have been aware of my pre-existing insurance and as such should never have even considered adding it to any bill. Rentalcars have been gracious enough to refund me for the insurance I had initially purchased through them as means of an apology for something that shouldn't have happened. As for chasing a refund through Firefly, they have been impossible to contact and filling out complaints forms on their website has been a complete waste of time.

We hired a car from Alicante airport and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. We got to the desk at 11pm on a Saturday night due to flight delays and there was no queue at the desk in the terminal. We were then given an upgraded car at no extra cost and explained the extra costs for insurance (we bought this from a third party before we arrived) and the child seat. We were told to bring the car back full with a receipt from a petrol station within 10km of the airport and show this to the desk when we returned the car. We also took photos of every single part of the car before leaving and upon return. It was great value for the service and size of car we rented and as a result, we will probably use them again.

Do not use !! We returned car full of petrol to an empty rental office at Toulouse airport. We had to use the key drop box. Found out today that my credit card was debited 拢139 without my knowledge. No statement emailed to me to advise what these extra charges are from firefly. Struggled to email as no phone number available. Now progressing my complaint through Ryan air and my credit card company as i did not agree to any additional insurances services or extras? Nor was the car damaged !!
Disgusting behaviour from a company owned by Hertz and cannot believe Ryan air trade with them ! Never ever book anything with Firefly !!

At first, I was very pleased that this time Firefly did not try to force their insurance on me the way they always try to do. My car was as always fully pre paid and I had my full protection insurance prepaid via Rentalcars. There were no discussions at the front desk at the airport in M谩laga, I received the sheet of paper pointing out a couple of dents on the car, the way they always do when you don't buy Firefly's insurance. I singed the car rental agreement as always and all was fine. When I received my credit card invoice, Firefly had charged me full insurance and obviously I got really upset. This was actually worse than them trying to force the insurance on me in a discussion at the front desk. They knew I had pre paid full insurance via Rentalcars. Rentalcars has been nice to reimburse the insurance I bought from them. But Firefly was the one cheating me and behaving in a very unacceptable way to a customer. The only right thing is for them to return the money they took from my account without my knowledge. I gave Firefly good reviews after the car rental, but that was before I became aware that they had cheated me. Be aware everyone! Read every single word on the contract. Don't trust Firefly for a minute and don't sign anything unless you understand 100%. Better yet! Don't use Firefly!

Avoid completely. We鈥檝e been travelling to Spain for 14 years and were completely ripped off this time with Firefly Car Rental. In peak season we paid 拢300 approx online only to be told we had to pay another 拢235 at the desk. It was not optional despite us saying we had our own comprehension insurance. This didn鈥檛 include fuel either as we were to bring it back full! He assured us this was not for insurance. Having paid the 拢300 online we didn鈥檛 have any option but to pay the further figure.
Adding insult to injury we were not given the car in the category we鈥檇 asked for (smaller car provided) it had done 85k and was very tired. The drivers door handle was damaged but after 2 days ceased working all together so could only be opened from the inside.
Unfit for purpose, pressurised at desk in the late hours with 2 tired children. Unprofessional at all levels. There are so many good rental companies to pick from at Alicante that there is no need to use these.

Extra charges after signed delivery…no receipt given…when we pick up car there are some scratches that is not in the contract…I let the guy know and he signs for the new scratches but does not make copy for himself…we deliver car back with no new damages…so why extra charges…

Just rented from Firefly at Toulouse (Blagnac) airport. I was expecting the worst given the reviews on here and Facebook. However, I had no problems at all. The staff were professional and pleasant. They were clear about their terms and conditions and pointed out any existing scratches etc and asked me to let them know if there were any greater than 2.5cm that were not recorded and let them know before taking the car. They were clear about the refuelling policy- fill up at a station within 15km and keep receipt to show to staff. I took out my own excess policy and although they went over the their own insurance option they didn't try and force me to take their own insurance. The car was an upgrade on what I had paid for, at no extra cost. So, in summary, read their terms and conditions, comply with them, and you shouldn't have a problem. I am assuming that most people who have a good experience just don't bother adding a review. Some of the very negative reviews I have read seem rather odd and questionable.

Pick up office at Barcelona Airport was appalling. Totally disinterested staff. We had two cars booked and were told we had to wait for both of them to arrive. After about half an hour they suddenly 'found' the keys in a drawer.

Thieves

when picking up the car, they charged me around 160 euros extra.
1- service fee
2- an additional service fee because i arrived after midnight (even though that was in my booking)
3- pay for the whole gas tank
4- 21% VAT on the above

Seriously?!

FireFly is an Agent for Hurtz, It would of been far cheaper to goto Hurtz direct. The full insurance was more expensive by 拢10 a day and if there was an accident Hertz will still take the money from your account and leave it up tp you to recover the money from FireFly. I was limited to 130 miles with was on the website but hidden in the small print. My journey was from Exeter to London so I was already over, I was diverted due to a crash on the M5 so was charged an extra 62 pounds when I dropped the car off.

Do not trust this company to rent a car from, no matter how good the deal is and they will appear to offer you a car for a few Euros a day , it will seem like an excellent deal BUT when you arrive at their desk, tired after your flight, at the airport, they will bamboosil you into buying more insurance or threaten you. They are part of Hertz, and if you refuse the additional exceptionally expensive insurance, then you will receive a letter sometime later after returning the car , claiming that you owe money for damage to the car ! This letter is nasty and threatning legal procedures. No matter that you have taken photos of all previous damage, on the time of receiving the car , this company will insist that you have damaged the car and caused scratches . They will not accept your dated photos and will hassle you both on the return of the car. ( usually its in a foreign language and they will not speak to you in your own language) and after you have left the country by letter . This is a huge big scandal and you need to read the comments on TRIP Advisor about what they are doing to many people ! I can't believe that a company with the reputation of Hertz allows this, and supports this. All correspondance comes from Hertz offices in Germany.!

Please be warned DO NOT book with this company ! and you may have to walk away from the counter in the Airport, if you arrive and find this happening to you. I walked away !!
