Fireplace & Chimney Authority

The communication is lacking with the Fireplace & Chimney Authority. It should not be left up to the customer to follow through to make sure parts are ordered, quotes are obtained, etc.

Absolutely great, every step of the way! Our chimney was hit by lightning and needed to be rebuilt. Everything was great, from my initial call, scheduling the inspection, quote, scheduling the work, insurance filing and actual work completed. We couldn鈥檛 be happier!

The company replaced the chimney on my house that was in serious disrepair. They provided updates and the final results have all my neighbors commenting on how great it looks.

Even though the original chimney was built in 1956, the technicians matched the new bricks with the old pretty close.
I have told all my neighbors about Chimney Authority

Called one business Out of Lombard Illinois and not only did he tell me it would cost around $1000 to replace my gas valve, but I was dumb enough to say OK. I finally wised up and called the fireplace and chimney Authority in Elmhurst just for a second opinion. Not only did the repair cost a third through Fireplace and Chimney Authority, but they had me taken care of very promptly. Everything I do will now be through to fireplace and chimney Authority out of Elmhurst

Terrible, look elsewhere. Do not give them business. Incredibly confusing invoicing system, charges kept getting added and omitted. I had my entire chimney replaced, during inspection it was found none of the pieces of the actual chimney were connected and could have lead to my house burning down (per the inspector). Would not respond to emails, they would call however, but I wanted everything in writing since so many revisions were being made. I have never been more upset and frustrated with a company.

A skilled installer arrived on time; he was very attentive to insuring there would be no soot or debris in our home as the old fireplace materials were removed and the new ones installed.

The job was done with great care and the installer was very knowledgeable and helpful in explaining safety issues, operation issues and answering any questions that I had. The install was done perfectly and in an efficient way, but with no rush or cutting corners.

We are very grateful and really enjoying the ease of operation and the beauty of this fireplace in our home.

I have a Mendota gas fireplace that I bought from Fireplace and Chimney Authority for $13,000 in 2016. It is operated by remote. Recently, the accent lighting stopped working. The remote had been acting a little strangely (had a hard time turning the unit off one day), so I changed the batteries. Still wasn't sure if my problem was with the remote or a bulb.
So I called Fireplace and Chimney Authority and told them what the issues were. They asked me if I wanted a service call (which includes a cleaning) and I said yes. A service call starts at $175.00. The guy came out with his assistant the following Saturday. He took the face off and disassembled the logs, etc. and cleaned the unit. Then he went to work on the light. It has a screw-on glass jar with a small bulb (halogen, I think) inside. He was having difficulty unscrewing the jar, so he took the fixture down. In so doing, he tore the gasket. He went out to the truck and got a bulb. I told him that it had the wrong base and at first he said no, but then I showed him how the original bulb has two loops where the other bulb had two straight prongs. He tried the bulb, but it wouldn't fit. So he said we should probably just replace the fixture. I said it would probably be best to just replace the gasket and get the right bulb.(He didn't have either on the truck)
He wrote up the report with both options and said someone would call me the next week. I called them the following Thursday and they said they would get back to me the next day because the technician was not in. I said that I assume that I would not have to pay for another service call. They said that a return visit is $65.00 and that they can't stock a truck for all contingencies. I told them that was the purpose of my call and they didn't fix the problem. They didn't get back to me. so I called them today. Talked to one guy he said he would call me back within the hour, then got a proposal from a different guy. They want $218.12 to come back and finish the job.
I called back and talked to someone who said that the guy was on the phone and he would have him call me back. I called him back.
I told him that we are looking at a total of $393.00 to replace a burned out bulb. I said that I already paid $175.00 and that the job wasn't done. He's said, " Oh, you already paid?". I said yeah , that was the reason for my initial call and that the tech tore the gasket and really all we need is a gasket and a bulb. He said he would talk to the technician and get back to me.
Somebody finally called me back and I told him that I think they should finish the job. I would pay $18.00 for the bulb and the rest should be on them. He said they wouldn鈥檛 come out for $18.00.
So I bought a 2-pack of the bulbs for $7.85 at Home Depot and ordered the gasket from Fireplace and Chimney Authority. They wanted $20.00 to ship the gasket from Elmhurst to Elk Grove. I told them to put it in an envelope and put a $0.55 stamp on it. They would not do that, so I had to have my daughter pick it up as we were going out of town.
In my opinion, they do not stand behind their service.

Another great project!
Had them out to install a fireplace front a couple of years ago. Went to them again for a switchover to a gas log system. They carry quality products. Great showroom experience, on-time installation done right the first time, and all at fair prices. Great job both times!

We have used the Chimney Authority for our fireplace and chimney cleaning since 2013 and had always been satisfied with their service. In 2016 one of the techs gave us a quote on converting our wood-burning fireplace (with a gas starter) to all gas. We waiting until last year to finally order the conversion. I had gone into the Lisle store and spoke with a helpful salesperson and was given an opportunity to look at fireplaces and received advice on might work best based on items (logs, embers, burner, etc.) that we had picked out from a catalog. When the day of installation came at the end of November, 2019 we encountered a snafu where our technician, Daniel was concerned about properly accessing the gas-line behind the wall panel and attaching the conversion kit without accidentally creating a gas leak. At this point, I understood the situation, but was a little upset that the tech who recommended the conversion three years earlier, didn't notice that we could possibly run into this scenario and the conversion would not be as straightforward as ordering the parts and hooking them up. Daniel searched his truck and was able to find a smaller pipe (which we purchased for $32) to attach without going behind the panel. He stressed that the results might not be as good as the required part and he was right – the fireplace was VERY underwhelming. While the embers looked great, the flame was very low and blue. We ended up ordering a replacement wall panel upon Daniel's recommendation, so that he could access the gas line and install the gas burner with the proper fittings. Daniel and the other tech, Ricardo were confident that they would be able to finish the job, but we had to be patient. And that meant waiting until after Christmas to get a new panel, another appointment scheduled and what we hoped was the proper fix. When Daniel and Ricardo returned in January, they worked tirelessly to get everything properly installed with the replacement panel. The end result was a stunning gas fireplace that we cannot even turn up all the way because the flame is that intense. The converted fireplace looks just as good, if not better than our wood-burning fireplace, provides instant ambiance and a lot of heat! We couldn't be happier with the level of service, friendliness and professionalism displayed by Daniel, Ricardo and JP who handled our calls.

The fireplace doors we purchased are great quality and just what we were looking for. The installation of the doors was very professional. Communication with customer regarding delivery of product needs to be improved. We had to call and follow up to check the status of our order only to find out it had been sitting in their warehouse.

Great reliable and professional service. They helped me make the right choices and I could not be happier! I gave 4 stars because they are not the lowest cost provider. Also very LONG process from start to finish. But it was in the middle of the fall-winter season. Overall I am very happy
