Short version:

* Got an offer for August 30 delivery.
* By the time our conversation ended, suddenly it September 2nd.
* Then we get a contract that states September 4th.
* 3 weeks after signing the contract, they change the date to September 8 unilaterally, fraudulently claiming that they're not responsible for a missed date since we're not able to receive shipments on Friday.

Only problem? We can.

Here's what you can expect from FlatRate moving:
1. Have a phone conversation with a rep that says one thing, get a contract that states something different
2. Never ever have anyone return your emails, phone calls after you signed a contract and paid them.
3. Sleep on an air mattress for 2 weeks while getting lied to and waiting for your furniture.

This is the worst service experience I've had in my life. That's saying something.

Everything went smoothly, from the initial call up until the last item was unloaded to our new home. The ability to add and remove items online was easy. The movers were courteous and professional. The entire experience was stressless.

Had an excellent experience from start to finish… The estimate was done promptly with careful consideration of my unique needs, and having the guarantee that there will be no surprise costs popping up on moving-day, was a welcomed relief. The moving crew of three showed as expected, and they proceeded with working tirelessly without pause from start until work was done and finished. Everyone I communicated with, on the phone, in-person and/or via email, was courteous and helpful, and the moving crew tackled any challenges and issues the job presented with care, a smile, and and with a positive attitude.

Thank you to the Flat-Rate Staff for making a difficult and anxiety provoking situation just a little bit better.

Sales over-sold us on what we were paying for. We moved from NYC to LA, and had a two month gap in the middle. We said we would give them plenty of heads up on the day we wanted to move in, and they said that was great. We had a defined move-in day in LA three weeks in advance of when we were arriving and we informed them immediately. Nowhere in our contract, emails, or any of the paperwork we have does it say there was a 7 day delivery window. We were first told of the window only a few days in advance of our delivery date, when we already had made arrangements with our building. Of course, our items arrived at 4pm on the 7th day of our window, and we slept on an air mattress in an empty apartment for 7 days. The excuse given to us was that it is a long drive across country. However, we gave them 3 weeks notice of the specific day we wanted to move in, and it was clear they did not start moving our stuff until maybe the day before our move-in. We thought at worst they would be 1-2 days late. We were wrong. Very pathetic logistics operations. They defiantly do not care because most people don鈥檛 move often, so it doesn鈥檛 matter to them if a customer won鈥檛 use them again.

Throughout the delivery process we were told we would get call backs that we never received, and we had to reach out to them four times for information. Each time the agent was surprised someone hadn鈥檛 already told us the info we were asking for.

The boxes arrived in extremely bad shape. We were lucky that only a few minor items were broken. Half the boxes were crushed from being piled too high, and a number of boxes had holes or rips large enough to fit a hand in. We did an extremely diligent job of packing, so only a few glasses and bottles broke.

The movers themselves were nice on both sides of the move, and they worked hard/carefully while we were watching. We would guess the non-customer facing movers at the depots are less careful because they鈥檙e not working for tips.

Trustworthy and straightforward is what we experienced with Flatrate. The salesperson was so kind, patient and once he gave us a quote, it didn't change at all. No surprises. The team that packed and moved us were professional and careful. I was really impressed with their entire operation.

Great experience with Flat Rate Movers! Would highly recommend them. Very timely and responsive, and movers were great. Very efficient and hard working. Well worth the cost.

Pros: Jay is a good personality (don't let that full you!)
They have an "army" to shift, therefore quick.

Cons: They are rough as guts in shifting your precious goods, furniture, etc.
I personally saw our stainless fridge door, slam and hit the concrete pavement when bringing it in from the removal truck to our home.
They don't have a big truck to shift the furniture of a 3 bedroom + an office in one hit.

I was disapointed with their service. This is because on the day of the move they asked for an extra $100 despite the fact that I had sent them a very detailed itemised list of all things that I needed to have moved. At this point I felt that I had very little options as everything else had been organised around having these items moved at that point in time. In addition, a piece of furniture was scratched. However, they were polite!

We found our experience with Flat Rate to be very mixed.

The good:
-The actual movers both in New York and Texas were wonderful. Very nice, helped us out when we got into tough situations, very timely. We had an issue with our couch fitting through the door and they problem-solved to make it work
-When we got ahold of a manager after a tough situation, he was very clear, truthful and followed through

The bad:
-Our NY sales person, David, was extremely difficult to work with. Because he failed to communicate our new move-in date (after countless emails and calls to him) to the long distance department, our ideal move-in week was full and we had to push our delivery date by another 7 days. I finally called myself and was told he had never contacted them. He also failed to properly inventory our items, even after I sent him clarifying follow-up emails (e.g., Why do you have a folding cart listed when ours does not fold?), which caused friction with our actual movers who went item by item and were frustrated when items were not exactly as they were on the list. On top of this, his emails were riddled with grammatical mistakes and very difficult to interpret, and he rarely answered all our questions in his responses
-The truck carrying our boxes broke down, and we were alerted towards the end of our week-long move-in window without any specifics. It took several days to get back in contact with someone after having emailed many times (no response), calling several times (and was told no managers were in), dealing with unhelpful agents and even sending a Facebook message (which ultimately was the only thing to yield a response)
-The claims process was difficult鈥攃learly several people are manning the account and do not read previous conversations for context, so they ask questions repeatedly
-About six of our items were damaged, including a bent mattress, chipped dresser and permanently broken cabinet, which needed to be thrown out. This was disappointing

Flat Rate could improve:
-Communication with clients: Sending a response 4 days (2 business days) later, when clients' belongings are delayed, is simply not acceptable
-Communication between sales people and actual movers: We were told by the movers, "The sales people always do this. They make the inventory list quickly just to get it done and then we come here and it doesn't match up to your actual items." This burden then falls on the client, which is not acceptable

First, the movers were amazing. They were fast, respectful, and worked hard. My issue was with my rep who was setting up this move. I gave him a list of things that he added but many items I told him were not there. Then I went to edit the itemized list and unfortunately, what I edit on-line doesn't go through. An e-mail gets sent to the rep who must then edit it. He didn't. When I called a couple days before my move to finalize the items again, I had to go through it two more times because of things I told him he didn't add. The difference between my initial estimate and the final was about an extra $400. What would have happened if he didn't adjust the list to what I told him? This literally kept me awake at night a week before my move because I was unable to edit my list (or credit card info) and had no response from the rep until I made it a point to call (the website said a rep would contact me within 48 hours but I never got a call). On the phone he was friendly. I would probably use Flatrate again but would make it a point to call the reps instead of rely on the website.

Flat rate gave a bid, stuck to it, arrived when they said they would, and packed the items quietly and carefully. If anything, they overpacked and protected some of the furniture.
