Most recently I took my dog, she had blood work done and a Lyme disease test. Thankfully she doesn't have Lyme disease but she had to be put on medication for what seems to be arthritis. She also got some additional medication for her skin as well as her shots and a medicated shampoo. Again I was very pleased with the bill I had to pay.
The staff is great they always greet us with excitement. I'm happy I found a great place who will be taking care of my fur babies health issues.

My interactions with Forest Ave Veterinary Hospital started approximately 3 years ago when I brought my 8 year old cat in to be examined. I brought him in because he had steadily been losing weight.
It turned out that he had diabetes. All though it was extremely expensive for all the testing and treatments, there was not a second thought in my mind to do it.
He was subsequently prescribed insulin and we started him on it immediately.
It took some time and several more office visits to get his dosage correct, but we finally did and Muck Muck (our cat) eventually got back to his normal weight and was doing great.
I would call the pharmacy every month and then go pick his insulin up.
Recently, I called the pharmacy to get his medicine refilled and the pharmacist told me that the Veterinarian would not refill the insulin. I immediately called the vet and inquired why. The vet then told me that she was not willing to give him a refill until she was able to examine the cat. I informed her that the cat was doing great and that I had opted to not bring him in for a 5th visit, because he was doing really well.
I am a single dad and every extra dime I had went to his insulin/needles, so ANOTHER vet visit seemed unnecessary to me because he was doing perfect.
The vet still refused to re-fill his medicine, so I had no choice but to bring him in for another visit. I asked how much it would be and she informed me the total cost for the visit would total $66.00.
At that point it had been 3 days since his last insulin shot, but he was doing fine.
The vet looked that cat over and then took him in another room to check his blood glucose levels. She returned and informed me that his levels were high. Which we knew because he had been 3 days without his shot. She then informed me that he is required to have a rabies shot every year, even though he is an indoor cat.
She said she would refill his insulin for 6 months, but would not go any longer than that until I bring him in for a rabies shot and I agreed.
The total for the visit came to more than double what she had told me on the phone, $150.00.
When I asked why the price had changed so much from what they had told me, she said because whoever told me that had been mistaken and that they had to draw blood.
I paid the bill and left.
I went the following morning and filled his insulin and gave him his shot.
I came home from work that evening to find our kitty had passed away.
I can only assume that it was from not having his shot for a little over 4 days.
The reason I'm writing this review is in hope of saving someone else the heartache my son and I are feeling from losing Muck Muck. He truly was a family member to us and we miss him dearly.
It is my opinion that he would still be here if she would have just called in his insulin and given me some time to get the money for another check-up, or at the very least, had given him some insulin at the vets office when he was there for the check-up.
I had begged the pharmacist and the vets office to please give me his medicine and that I would bring him in for the check-up as soon as possible, but they wouldn't.
The vet herself was very uncaring and cold when it came to our situation.
I literally felt like I was being exploited for more and more money and the punishment for me not spending more money with them, is my cat not having his life saving medicine.
I truly would recommend finding another Vets office, OTHER than Forest Ave Veterinarians.
We feel like Muck Muck would still be with us if we had gone anywhere but there.

During the consultation, they even recommended an over the counter supplement (found on Amazon.com) that I could add to her food to help her with arthritis and/or joint mobility. Funny enough, I actually brought her to a vet in Massachusetts last year for arthritis/lack of mobility issues, and they recommended pain medication for arthritis without even mentioning supplements that could address the issue directly.
As great as my (and my cat's) experience at the clinic was, the clear highlight of the visit was the inexplicable presence of an old working Atari in the waiting room, ready and waiting to be used. Guys, I'm not kidding. Was this what visiting a vet was like in 1982? I might get my cat a rabies shot every 2 weeks if it gives me a reason to play Galaga or Space Invaders.

I have since found another vet who I like MUCH more! None of the tests the vet suggested were necessary, so I am glad I went with my gut.
The receptionist was also not the most friendly person. The wait room is small and only has a few chairs.
