Gateway Classic Cars

Gateway Classic Cars, Crete, Illinois, has had a 1967 Hemi GTX on consignment, listed on EBAY multiple times. I have bid on the car, multiple times, each time being the high bidder (their reserve did not get met). I emailed them three times, asking what the seller is looking to get for the car, as I wanted to purchase the car. No response. I called the Chicago showroom, five days ago, spoke with Lou, told him I would like to buy the car, he said he would contact the owner, see what they want, and call me back. You guessed it, no call back. So if they are not motivated to sell their cars, how do they stay in business? My guess is they collect enough consignment fees to keep the doors open. I would never use this type of facility to sell my car or buy a car from. Terrible communication practices.

I do not recall being told the $1000 deposit was non refundable. I never signed a single document.
I had bad vibes about the vehicle. The comments made about the current owner definitely do not match maintenance records we were able to find during our investigation.
Buyer beware do not leave a deposit unless you are absolutely sure and have done ALL your research.

Purchased a 1967 Olds, I'am 59 yrs old. I do not expect any salesperson to be a mechanic, that is not their profession. I purchased a comparatively lower priced car (by about 18K) due to model. The advertising was about the same as the higher priced models and no difference in video/pictures, both highlighted what was best about the vehicle. I didn't ask a lot of questions about the car because the salesperson can only go by what he has been given by owner or the person writing the report. So the car I received has a replacement engine and not the engine stated in advertising (figured as much from pics),brake drums bad (overturned if I hard braked, they would snap). So what I am saying is that I bought as is and that is what I get. One side note the salesperson never said the 1k deposit was non refundable, but I did look at some 300 reviews (former employees and customers) and already knew what to expect. And don't know about titles, but most states are 20 to 45 days by law.Vehicle consignments are a violation of Ohio State Law. Illinois, IAC Section 1020.50鈥?鈥?Consignment Sales by Dealers and Sec. 5-104.3. Disclosure of rebuilt vehicle and 625 ILCS 5/3-113鈥?鈥?Transfer to or from dealer. The last item – they have a customers low price and unless you are lower than that, they are not contacting the seller. Its a business, so don't ask the salesperson to be a mechanic/inspector, hire your own that's certified.(not uncle Bob).

Beware, took our (2) 1969 Mach1's to Milwaukee, actual location is Kenosha. Was told that buyers would pay the premium, no cost to me after we paid $300 each car. After I saw our cars on line was floored by the asking price. Informed they mark up the Net to Owner (NTO) price 30%. Example if your NTO is $50,000 they price the car at $65,000. This is corporate policy, no local control. Our case we were trying to get most out of the cars. Cars were there 90 days without a nibble, picked them up. Elected not to renew for another 90 days. After 30% was added onto the NTO they could have been there 20 years and never sold.

gateway wants to discuss my dissatisfaction. why? its been sitting mths now and 4k later. they cannot help with time lost and money spent. I believe nothing can be done to help with my problem as I already paid mechanics to fix the engine, oil leak problems. I bought the car because it was advertised as having a 400 cu engine. In a phone conversation I asked them to confirm the motor size. The lady said yes, it IS a 400. well when the mechanic took out the engine he showed me the 350 marking! They said it was in fine condition. How could they not see the big oil puddle under the car. I believe any company worth their salt would call instead of sending a text. They have my phone number

They have sold three classics for me over the last two years. I am very well satisfied. It took some time but that is understandable. They seem to take good care of the autos until they sell.

I bought my car out of the Ft. Lauderdale showroom on December 5th 2008. Things went fine up to the point where I signed the contract. During negotiations I was told by the salesman Toby that the car had a car cover. I went thru them for financing and it took a week! I finally got the car delivered on December 18th. Remember I signed the paperwork on December 5th. I live in Atlanta, a 12 hour drive. When the car arrived, guess what? No car cover. No title either. When I called Toby on the 19th, I was assured that the title would be in the mail the next day and he would send me a car cover. A little time went by, forward to the day after Christmas. Still no title, no car cover. I called and was informed that Toby no longer worked there and that they would find out about the title. Later that day they called and said that they were waiting for the seller to bring in the title but it was taking extra time because of Christmas. I signed the paperwork 20 days before Christmas! Well, here it is, January 5th, a full month after signing the paperwork and still no title and no car cover. I have a car that I can't drive because I can't register it and a car payment coming due for a car that I don't technically don't own. I am a collector with 16 classic muscle and sports cars. This was the first time I purchased thru Gateway classic cars and it will be the last. Trust me, a car buying experience for a collector car should not be like this. STAY AWAY!!!!

This place is only great because of the right people Ive been working with. I鈥檇 have to say I wouldn鈥檛 want to work with anyone but Joe due to the fact he knows his stuff, knows how to sell and quick at getting you out the door with money in your pocket. Great customer service and definitely someone the company needs to keep around. I am looking forward to further business with him and Gateway Classic Cars! 5 star rating for company and staff at the Orlando store!

Jonathan Cleveland did a very good job of helping me get the car listed for sale with all the paperwork and he is a very friendly and knowledgeable young man. The sales team did an excellent job of taking pictures, doing the write up, and getting the car sold in 90 days. As with most any business today I would suggest asking a lot of good questions, doing research, and getting as much information as possible.

Purchased a 1978 Ford Bronco from Gateway. Absolutely horrible experience. The truck was not as described. Upon delivery before the Bronco was even off loaded, I called the dealer for a refund. Of course it was 鈥渘on-negotiable鈥?and as is. Beware of this dealer. They flat out lied to me. It cost me another $21,000 to fix the misrepresented features, dents, scratches and undriveable vehicle. Look elsewhere. Have a mechanic look at car and definitely take for a drive. Don鈥檛 take a word from them as reliable.

I live in Europe and took the risk to buy without driving a classic car. Thanks to the guys at Gateway Classic Cars Chicago I felt empowered and I shipped a Corvette to Belgium.
They were super professional and helped me with all the questions. I would recommend them to all buyers, whether you are in US or abroad.

I'll be back for a mustang!

I paid 22K for my Classic dream truck from Gateway Classic Cars St Louis. They shipped me at my expense a truck that would not start to pull it off the hauler (2 Cells dead in battery). After I paid extra to get it unloaded at a garage they replaced the battery and got it started only to find out the radiator was overflowing with oil. They put it on the rack and found the cross members, floor pans, and rocker panels were rusted out and rebuilt with silicone than painted black so the undercarriage would look good for the pictures. Brake cylinder including master were all bad. Steering defective. Signal lights broken.
Gateway response after I sent them pictures was sorry we are not responsible AS IS NO WARRANTY. Bottom line I have owned the truck three months and never driven It because it's not safe and I can't afford to have it fixed.

The Detroit/Dearborn facility is wonderful. Great Staff, knowledgeable and amicable. Having listed cars with them, done business with them, they are Professional and correct.
As always, Inspect any cars your interested in, Gateway has little control of what you, the Public, brings to them to sell. They are Brokers of Classic cars, and do their best to present them.
They are not responsible for defective items, merely Brokers of Cars.
I have had wonderful experiences with them, and recommend them heartily. Jim H.

Just spent a lot of money on a camaro – got it delivered and several aspects of the car were not divulged even when asked specifically. Driver's side window fails to roll up, turn signals do not work, and emergency brake does not work. Serves me right for not being able to touch the vehicle prior to purchase. I even had a mechanic lined up to evaluate the car, but taking the salesperson's advice that there are no problems with the car and that the mechanic I was going to have look at it had already looked at it and said it was great. Don't take the word of the sales persons – get someone to evaluate it before purchasing.

This is BY FAR the best venue our group has ever used! Between all the "cool factors" & the staffs attention to everything we needed, we will be using GCC for all our future events!

Was so excited and saved $ for my first classic. Was told it was awesome both body & mechanically. I received it and immediately had a restomod classic car builder go thru the entire car. It has a cracked and twisted frame. Gas leak, oil leaks and the cars body was repaired with bondo. The under carriage, brakes,, and tie rods are a mess and unsafe. And to boot electrical is a mess …brake lights don't work when head lights are on radio doesn't work. …its a mess I got an estimate to fix all properly 10k-15k. I am contacting the FLA AGs office. I have friends in high places so I'll get their attention. These guys don't give a darn about what they sell. They just sell unsafe and all. I'll keep you posted.

I was very happy with the way the car was depicted on line. The shipper Gateway recommended was excellent. My only complaint is, I had to call the salesman a few times to get him to get the previous owner to bring in the title.

As a 16 year old coming into what is considered a car museum, I received wonderful treatment when I told my salesman, David, I was interesting in taking a look at the car i purchased. With no hesitation, we talked a little about the car and he showed me all around it, then left and thought about it, and came back that same Friday. I was only there about an hour before the transaction was completed and i took off in my new 1996 Firebird Formula. Great experience. Will definitely come back multiple times a year and check their inventory. 10/10 would buy again.

I think the salesmen are working more for the buyer and their own interests rather than mine.
