I just don't get it. Why is this software not a part of Windows 10 by default? It is so much better. Great Software!

Paintdotnet is completely free, so there is no point in being harsh in any way as people have gone to trouble of providing working software at no cost to the end user.

The software itself is exceptional and will meet the needs of non professional users without any issues.

I have been using it for quite some years, there are plenty of free addons for the program too. There are advantages and disadvantages to the program depending on what you want to do. For example, at the time of writing, there still is no blur brush for blurring the edges of pixels.

It will suit most amateurs and probably some experts. If all you want to do is simply crop an image, rotate it, make it black and white or add some minor effects, it will more than make that easy, if you want to remove a background, then the magic wand works very well too.

There are a lot of effects included and many plugins available for free, since I have many plugins I got elsewhere I can't remember which are included by default.

The user interface is intuitive, you can work with layers and have settings for different layers, including a multitude of modes for mixing one layer with another.

Text is a disadvantage, if you are wanting to add text to an image, yes it is easy, however, editing said text at a later stage, does not seem possible. This is one advantage the likes of Gimp has over paintdotnet.

An advantage paintdotnet has over Gimp though, is that you do not need to export a project, you can simply "Save as", Gimp works much like photoshop and others that if you want to save as PNG or JPG you have to export, of course this only takes marginally longer, however it is a feature of paintdotnet I like.

Although I do have Serif Affinity Photo for more advanced stuff, if I want to do something more simplistic, I always opt for Paintdotnet and the vast majority of users will find it useful. Kudos to the creators for making the software free.

I have been using this program as long as I can remember. It is much easier to understand & use then the well known GIMP. It also works in layers & it great for pretty much all my image editing & creating needs. I especially love that I can make transparent images & text with it.

On note of other reviews I have never seen this program try to install anything 3rd party other then .NET Frameworks as its needed to run being it works in frames. The person who said it tries to install ad-ware is misinformed & must have installed from a 3rd party site that made changes to the installer. I know for a fact that it does not install ad-ware or anything harmful. If you download it from GetPaint.net you will not have such problems.

Since Adobe Photoshop is expensive, Paint.NET is free and has more features. Highly recommending it.

Paint is a good- but not great program. Consider it in the midpoint between Paint and GIMP.

The official site to download the paint.net photo editing software. Do not go to the website paint.net because it has blackhat exploits and can hurt your computer. Go here for the official download.

Good photo-editing software, and good for quickly making good wallpapers such as planets, etc. Sometimes able to do simple photo manipulations, but somewhat bad at image authoring (for example: drawing illustrations of clipart)

Recently switched to the GIMP, which is more advanced and great at advanced things. I still use Paint.NET sometimes for simple things, which is easier and faster to do in PDN than in the GIMP.

I recommend Paint.NET to beginners or people who need a bit more advanced program than MS Paint. When you have used Paint.NET for a while, then switch to the GIMP, or/then to Photoshop, which is more advanced.

I love using Photoshop, it's a really cool tool to manipulate pics, create logos or paint digitally. The problem with it, is that it's freaking expensive! Expensive enough that most people who just would like it to have fun pasting Grampa's head on Gramma's body (who doesn't right?) cannot afford the nearly $1000 dollar price tag for the latest version which I think is #12 Creative Suite or something. Now unless of course you don't mind using Photoshop 1 or 2 for about $20 bucks (maybe even free now) and seems like it came out in 1954 with pixels the size of your thumb nail. So if you are not into that idea, the great news is that you can download a substitute that is remarkably impressive considering that it's free. Paint.net has been around a little while now and since I've been using Photoshop programs since 1998 , I put this free one to the test and it really impressed me. Doesn't have all the fancy bells and whistles Photoshop has but it's damn close. Let's just say I had no trouble putting Grampa's head on Gramma's body and vice -versa. I just wished I hadn't emailed everyone in the family my little masterpiece, guess I got carried away and well, I thought it was funny at the time. They're old and they'll forget about it by next week anyways.
Also, come to think of it, I said "bells and whistles" to describe Photoshop which is a silly saying, since I've yet to find a bell or whistle tool in photoshop, but if you've used Photoshop before, you know what I'm saying right?
