Family Tree DNA

I should of trusted my instincts before using this dodgy site. Very un-user friendly site, compared to three other major genealogy sites that I also use. I did notice a relative that matched another sites results but the results were distant (not worth the hassle of managing another dna site) It keeps logging me out, and i use the same login info on my phone, yet it says cannot log in (so much frustration with login issues) They are eager to up-sell yet make the site so horrible to use. goodbye

myFTDNA has & still is A nightmare to Use constant frustrating Software problems that have gone on for Years. Try puting infomation on their (your tree) Tree!
LivingDNA is also very Bad but not as frustrating mostly because they have not made it capable of doing anything.. I've been waiting for years.. a complete waste of money, but not Frustrating like myFTDNA.
I use 23andMe and Ancestry Ancestry being the most useful. myFTDNA they need a complete Change of Corporate Leadership and management should be forced to use their Product for 3 months at the end of which they will probably take Early Retirment

I ordered an MTFullSequence test for them because it promised a better mitochondrial DNA test experience. I had a coupon for free shipping which I entered the code and the free shipping came up on my invoice. However when the charge came up on my credit card I found that they had charged me the shipping. When I wrote to them they basically said too bad, so sad, we're keeping your shpping cost. They also take a very long time to provide results. I did this previously with 23andMe and had my results within a couple weeks. With Family Tree DNA their projected time is like 6 to 8 weeks. And on top of that their website doesn't make any sense, nor did they ever send me a detailed, itemized receipt for my purchase, nor is it available on the website. This is a shady, ripoff company with poor customer service. I would not use them again and will tell anyone else to avoid them also.

I paid for the highest level of testing over 10 years ago. But the testing only went to 67. When I telephoned them on several occasions as the years rolled by, they said I didn't have any recent relatives that were tested. I know this is not true as I joined 2 other DNA testing companies, 23andme and Ancestry.com. I consider Familytreedna to be liars and cheats. And their website is truly extremely difficult to navigate. I believe they do this on purpose so they can get you to constantly add new services at a high cost. To this day, I never had any relatives beyond 67 test with their Company. And they are the absolute nastiest individuals I have ever encountered when it comes to customer service. In recent years the testing I paid for has become more and more worthless. And I paid a lot of money for this testing. The other two companies were much cheaper and much more useful than this website.

Chat Transcript with CONRAD
Chat started on 12 Mar 2020, 09:16 PM (GMT+0)
(09:16:50) *** CONRAD joined the chat ***
(09:16:50) CONRAD: hello
(09:16:53) *** David joined the chat ***
(09:17:03) David: Hello Conrad, thank you for chatting with FTDNA. How may I help?
(09:17:16) CONRAD: i have a problem
(09:17:37) CONRAD: I purchased your Y37 kit on 12-15-2019
(09:18:07) CONRAD: was told it would take 4-6 weeks when I purchased it
(09:18:52) CONRAD: I submitted a request and recieved notice that the first test failed and that a rerun would take another 4-6 weeks
(09:19:59) CONRAD: i have used Ancestry and My Heritage and never had a problem, i thought i would give your company a try.
(09:20:14) David: Yes, upon review I do see that information. I am sorry for any disappointment the delay may have caused. At this time, I can see that the newly extracted sample is presently running and there have not been any new quality control failures to speak of.
(09:21:33) CONRAD: how would the quality control failure happen?
(09:24:36) David: It is difficult to say, and we are not typically provided with a specific reason. In most instances, it is due to a low volume of DNA present in the initial extraction, or the sample itself may not have had as much sample present on the swab as is necessary to run a successful test. A subsequent, 2nd extraction and attempt usually resolves this issue in almost all cases. Sample failures are rare, so I am sorry that it happened in this instance. However, at this time, your testing is proceeding normally with the second extraction.
(09:25:29) CONRAD: and how long will the 2nd test take?
(09:26:07) David: Approximately 4-6 weeks.
(09:28:37) CONRAD: That is absurd. I have taken the Mt and the Autosomal before and know how to swab the sample well enough for testing. I need to have my money refunded at this point.
(09:29:28) CONRAD: it has not been approximately 12 weeks since i paid for this is has been 12 weeks.
(09:32:28) David: As I said, I am sorry for the unexpected delay, and it was not in any way my intent to imply that you do not know how to collect a sample using a cheek swab. However, our return policy states the following: "Once a sample has begun processing in our lab, the new or existing kit order is no longer eligible for modifications or any type of refund." I would not be able to process a refund request in this instance.
(09:33:03) CONRAD: i will go BBB
(09:33:06) CONRAD: thanks
(09:33:31) David: May I provide any further assistance at this time?
(09:34:55) CONRAD: I can not think of anything you can help me with.
(09:35:53) CONRAD: read your reviews
(09:36:34) David: Thank you for chatting with FTDNA and have a great rest of your day.
(09:37:01) CONRAD: enjoy my money

(09:39:47) CONRAD: When FamilyTreeDNA upated its program鈥?When FamilyTreeDNA upated its program on 11/19, they lost all of my extensive family tree notes. They have not corrected the problem. They only offer lame "software" problem excuses. Don't subscribe to this service.
(09:40:18) CONRAD: Feb 4, 2020 Dont waste your money. If you are new to this as I was last year. They are the worst of the 4 companies I signed with. All Autosomal DNA testing companies will give you some kind of family history.

Have been using this site since 2007 and it's hardly improved over time. Website is confusing. It's great if you want a list of names of distant relatives and that's about it. 23andMe is much better.

Ancestry will not allow you to upload your FTDNA results to your family tree on ancestry. I did this test before ancestry had their own test

If you are new to this as I was last year. They are the worst of the 4 companies I signed with.

All Autosomal DNA testing companies will give you some kind of family history. This is useful for bragging rights in the office but little else. Nobody really cares if you are 2% Jewish or Native American except you. If that's all you'll ever want then FTDNA are as good as anyone which isn't very good.
.
You then need to decide if you'll ever want to go further. Probably the two things you might want to want to look at are health or matching ancestors.
FTDNA will try and upsell you to their YDNA and MtDNA testing. It's very expensive and worthless as far as I can see. It will only match you to other people who have spent a lot of money on the same tests. If you match on the Family Finder test, the YDNA and MtDNA wont tell you anything useful extra, if you don't they wont tell you anything useful at all. If you just want to know your basic haplogroup a LivingDNA YDNA test will tell you for a 10th of the price

Their website is an cluttered awful mess , their matching tools are limited, I got nothing useful from their user groups, I wouldn't trust them with my health data . They promise the world and deliver hardly anything. Don't recommend in any form.

Family Tree DNA………………BLECK! Done dealing with them! Mistake was made and they don't want to do what it takes to make it right. Make sure you read every thing on their site and check out with a fine toothed comb. What they put up there is deceiving. If you own one kit DO NOT buy another one with the same email address. Also you'll have to have another account to purchase a NEW kit or they apply all the money you send them to the old kit for an upgrade you don't need

I鈥檝e used FTDNA and have been fairly pleased with the information that was presented. Before November 2019, I was able to import a GEDCOM file to build a Family Tree. The week before the latest software update, I experienced problems and was told by the Support Group to wait till the end of month update and try again. I was told to export another GEDCOM file and try again. Still FTDNA has not been able to work through the Family Tree 鈥榖ug鈥?report and their IT Department has no planned update time for resolution.

I have been waiting for results for DNA tests for my son and daughter – creating an account – usability of account – sending an email?? all very confusing – I filled out contact form – was sent an email requesting I fill out a contact form – clicked on the link and hey presto – it was the same form that I'd filled out – incredible!!

Family Tree DNA's ancestry results couldn't be any further from the truth. Apparently they interpreted my German ancestry as solely Scandinavian and my Italian ancestry as solely Sephardic. FTDNA is a ripoff!

23andme was spot on in terms of accurately identifying
ancestry which I already knew to be true.

Do not use this company for DNA testing, I bought one test which to begin with they wouldn鈥檛 complete until I paid an invoice of over 拢15000. This was eventually sorted out as an error but took ages to resolve. I then bought an mtDNA kit for aunt to complete only to discover they used my 1st DNA kit results instead of sending me out a new testing kit, I only found out when I emailed them to see where it was but as they had already started testing they have refused to refund my money or send out the kit I purchased.

I have been with FTDNA for many years and I have two things to say, 1. Some Years ago part of my Ethnicity was 24 percent Scandanavian and I was thrilled so I researched and then 2 years later was told by FTDNA that my Scandanavian Ethnicity was 0 Percent, WOW.
NOW, 2. This is the worst experience and my Family were adopted and we knew the origins of our Biological Family, but spent 3 years building THE FAMILY TREE and just finished ONE week before this latest REVIEW OR CHANGES to the Software . After the changes MY TREE is ruined and have lost most of the Information and none of the Functions work, it just comes up with the Error Code 500. I am relaibly informed that there is a large amount of people with a lot of Problems. COME ON FTDNA HURRY UP AND ALLEVIATE OUR SUFFERING.

If I could give one of the groups on Family Tree a negative 20 stars I would.
I briefly communicated with a representative from Lowery DNA project named Regan Lowery.
This individual was strangely ignorant and condescending about what they allegedly saw in my DNA.
Professionally sloppy, not to mention incredibly racist, they used words such as " honkey" "gringo" and "quadroon" in their discourse and did not seem to be familiar with research and geneology.
. Although I have questions about their researching ability they seemed to be adept at stalking… telling me where I lived etc.. Perhaps this was meant to impress me with their detective skills?
I found their approach to communication confusing and definitely not worth the time I spent opening their emails..,

The CEO gives the FBI access to the entire database without disclosing and without your permission. Regardless if you don't think you or your family have anything to hide, it at one point was our right not to give the government access to your dna. Today they may use it for investigation and tomorrow they may want to purge undesirable dna profiles for the greater good of humanity. If it isn't still a right to not to allow government to search your very essence, it should still at least be a HIPPA violation.

Over a month and no kit, when you send them an email, they come back with how good it will be to use their contact form, a 50% improvement, 50% is a fail, the link is broken to get the form. After looking at the reviews I should not have wasted my money, I am asking for a refund.

First our family spent nearly $300 for a short list of names linked to our Y DNA. Then I decided that wasn't enough, so upgraded to a $500 test, according to Family Tree, the best test. What did we receive in return? Two names that were on the first list! Two names! Nothing else. I disputed the charges with my credit card company, but they pointed out that as long as the test was completed, I had to pay for the test. I will never spend another penny with these frauds. They should not even be in business!

Fake DNA test. I filed a dispute with my credit card that was unsuccessful. Though they got my 327 dollars they still deleted the fake DNA test without my permission. When I log on I just get ads for really expensive fake DNA tests and no invoices for the fake DNA tests

Transfers from MyHeritage DNA raw data doesn't work. They don't give you refund and you need to delete the transfer, and retransfer the data – if they some day can make their system working. Don't waste your money to this sh**ty company!
