This review is based on the overall experience I had with a purchase of their comic & the content. This was my first time purchasing through gestalt, I had purchased their 1st issue of Cleverman at Supernova Sydney when the Cleverman TV series was airing on television around the same time, I was interested in the story of the indigenous superhero that had very interesting story arc & where it would lead to. We were excited about it as a whole as me my wife & kid have indigenous background & there wasn't many characters out there that indigenous kids could look up to. The actors and creators couldn't have been nicer, so we eagerly awaited issue 2 and so on, kept checking on it long after the television series was done. When we finally saw issue 2 coming out we were through the roof, ordered a copy and it was posted very quickly. Here's when things started going south. We received the comic very quickly, as comic collector's we were very disappointed in how it arrived, it came in a standard bag and board, but that's it, inside the express envelope, no protection no handle with care nothing. So seeing as that was the case the comic arrived damaged. Unhappy with that, we messaged gestalt on facebook, we received a message from wolfgang & he was very apologetic about it and assured us he'd make it right and send us another one soon as they were in the middle of moving offices (was before pandemic happened as well I might add). I was patient, gave them time, after I didnt hear from them I decided to contact them regarding what was happening. Sent message, they surely looked at it, and decided not to respond to any messages that were sent. Obviously ghosting me like that we figured they weren't going to follow through on their word. Never received any response since the original responses. When we purchase books from other online retailers they always send it in appropriate packaging to ensure they arrive in the best condition they can. We wanted to wait to receive the replacement before reading it, we decided to read it after all of that. Well, there wasn't much to read at all. There literally was barely any dialogue or story in the book which was extremely disappointing considering the material & how good the first issue was. It felt like they didn't care about it and just put it out as is just to put it out. The overall experience garnered a 2 star review & it wouldve received higher had they followed through on their word & had the comic been a good read. I do not plan to purchase from them again directly & if they ever continue with the cleverman comic beyond issue 2 we would unfortunately pass on it. Had high hopes on this series & let down, here's hoping someone else decides to actually care about putting good books out there.
